What is Agility?<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Agility is a training sport.  <\/span>You train your dog to run an obstacle course that includes jumps, tunnels, weave poles, dog walks, teeter-totters, and others obstacles.  <\/span>You race against time while trying to complete the obstacles as accurately as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n

There are different events for all levels of experience.  <\/span>Agility is a great way to get outside for some fun and exercise with your favorite, furry canine and other dog lovers!<\/span><\/p>\n

Benefits<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

Exercise:<\/span><\/span> Dogs get bored \u2013 they need things to do just like people.  <\/span>Many pet behaviourists and veterinarians agree that dogs need plenty of exercise \u2013 both mentally and physically.  <\/span>Training your dog for Agility helps keep your dog\u2019s mind and body in shape.  <\/span>You will also get some great exercise while running through the course with your pooch.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Bonding:<\/span><\/span> Agility is a great way to bond with your dog.  <\/span>Through the training your dog will rely on your commands for guidance through the course.  <\/span>It\u2019s a great way to improve communication with your dog and ensure your dog is well trained.<\/span><\/p>\n

Behaviour:<\/span><\/span> Just like people, dogs behave better when they are entertained \u2013 when they have places to go, things to do, and dogs to see.  <\/span>Dogs that take part in Agility are less likely to have behavioural and health problems.  <\/span>Problems like chewing, digging, barking, and hyperactivity are far less common in Agility dogs than dogs that don\u2019t get enough socialization and exercise.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For dogs who might be timid or fearful Agility helps build confidence and trust.  <\/span>Confidence and trust go a long way toward helping your dog overcome fearful and timid behaviour.  <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Before you Start<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n

\u00b7         <\/span><\/span><\/span>Look up agility clubs in your area<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7         <\/span><\/span><\/span>Make sure your dog meets the qualifications \u2013 such as age<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00b7         <\/span><\/span><\/span>Make sure your dog is in good health \u2013 vaccines and checkups are up to date <\/span><\/p>\n
