{"id":9874,"date":"2014-10-23T12:14:44","date_gmt":"2014-10-23T19:14:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.doo-n-go.com\/pit-bull-education\/"},"modified":"2021-10-27T12:58:21","modified_gmt":"2021-10-27T20:58:21","slug":"pit-bull-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.doo-n-go.com\/fr\/pit-bull-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Pit Bull Education"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Pit Bulls<\/h2>\n<p>Pit bulls have a bad rep \u2013 a lot of people think of them as violent, unpredictable animals.&nbsp; But it wasn\u2019t until the mid-1980\u2019s that Pit Bulls started to become public enemy number one.&nbsp; Through the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century the Pit Bull was a popular family dog.&nbsp; There were few, if any stories of Put Bulls attacking people; attacks were blamed on poor ownership, not on the breed.<\/p>\n<h2>What Changed<\/h2>\n<p>In an article for <i>Cesar\u2019s Way<\/i> Jon Bastian talks about the history of the Pit Bull.&nbsp; His article also pins points the 1980\u2019s as when things changed for the breed.&nbsp; You can read his article <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cesarsway.com\/dogbehavior\/basics\/How-Did-Pit-Bulls-Get-a-Bad-Rap\">here<\/a>.&nbsp; In the 1980\u2019s there were 3 major things that changed the way people think about Pit Bulls:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>A high profile Pit Bull attack that caused the death of a 2 years old boy \u2013 the dog was guarding a marijuana crop<\/li>\n<li>An increase in the use of Pit Bulls as guard and attack dogs \u2013 especially for organized crime<\/li>\n<li>Dog fighting became popular again and Pit Bulls were the dog of choice<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>By the 1990\u2019s Pit Bull bans were common in the United States.<\/p>\n<h2>The Truth<\/h2>\n<p>The American Society for the Protection of Animals says that just because a breed is bred with certain traits doesn\u2019t mean that each individual will display all these traits.&nbsp; Behaviour develops through a complex process that includes environment, interaction, experience, genetics and even diet.
